How to make a website for your business — step by step.
Everything you need to know to get your business online, explained simply — whether you build it yourself or get it made.
Step 1: Decide what the website must do
Do you want enquiries on WhatsApp, online orders, bookings, or just a professional presence? Write down the one main action you want visitors to take. This decides the type of website you need.
Step 2: Buy a domain name
Your domain is your address, like yourbusiness.com. Keep it short, easy to spell and close to your business name. A .com is a small yearly fee at GoDaddy, Namecheap or Hostinger.
Step 3: Choose how to build it
| Option | Good for | Downside |
|---|---|---|
| Website builders (Wix, Squarespace) | Very simple sites, small budget | Monthly fees, slower, limited SEO and features |
| WordPress | Blogs and content sites | Needs updates, plugins and security care |
| Get it made by a developer / agency | Business sites that must bring customers | Upfront cost |
Step 4: Plan your pages
- Home — who you are and what you offer, in one screen.
- Services / Products — one section or page per service.
- About — why customers should trust you.
- Contact — WhatsApp, phone, map and a form.
Step 5: Make it mobile-friendly and fast
Most visitors come from phones. Use compressed images, big readable text and buttons that are easy to tap.
Step 6: Launch and get on Google
Connect your domain with https, submit your sitemap in Google Search Console, and create a free Google Business Profile so you appear on Google Maps.
Common mistakes
- No WhatsApp or call button.
- Heavy images that make the site slow.
- Copy-pasted text — Google ranks original content.
- Not connecting Google Search Console.
